It's the first cast... I let go of the line, let it stretch out over the water, and feel my shoulders drop. An instant release of stress. Even better than that, shortly afterwards, I zone completely out. Gone. Nowhere to be found. Maybe it's really about floating on the kayak, my balance locking me into total synchronicity with all the rest of the water on Earth. Maybe it's the feverish anticipation of a topwater hit, the lure just walking across the surface. The world is full of problems. You can zone out for a few moments a few times a week and still get to them.
Sleeping in is a waste of daylight. Do what you love––go fishing.
